This is how I do the “Hands Under The Chin” pose. I’m sure there are other ways, but I thought I would share my “technique”.
A special thanks to Dave and Alisha for letting me use their sweet little baby and for my awesome brother for making the video.
He filmed a lot of this newborn session so I will post more poses later:)

Melissa Gilmore

I just loved your video so much, and it taught me so much. I’m not sure why you pulled it down but, I’d love to share it with a fellow photographer on how to pose newborns. Is there anyway you’d post it again?

What kind of pillow/beanbag do you have them sitting in? I have tried this like a million times and CAN’T get it to work. Your photos are beautiful and I would LOVE to learn how to do this!

Thank you so much for posting this video. I to would love it if your did a class on baby posing. You are amazing. A quick question. What are you using underneath the newborn. Is it better to have a hard surface for the elbow to hold the weight or a soft surface? Thanks!

 ( Nov 12th, 2010 9:53 pm)

Where do you get the tiny headbands??? They are perfect for new babies!

haha that video is hilarious i love that you rock them to sleep on their hands. I still think you must have the magic touch though because i’m pretty sure they are not nearly as cooperative for me!

I made the flowers with old vintage paper. The girl who owns Trendy Tots in the riverwoods made some for Skye’s studio and so I copied them from her. She might be willing to sell some to you?!?

 ( Nov 9th, 2010 5:08 am)

some time if the baby isn’t as cooperative as this one, I will do a composite:) We will try to do a video of the studio one of these days:)

Whoa! You did that so fast! What a cute video! Thank you for sharing this Kate! I noticed you jiggled her head a little bit. I was just watching a new mom at a baby shower the other night and she was jiggling her baby on her lap and I was thinking how that motion makes me sleepy too. I fall asleep while rocking my baby to sleep every night. Never thought to use it for this pose! Great idea!

 ( Nov 7th, 2010 7:39 am)

That is the cutest video ever! What a little doll to sleep through it all, gotta love that!
